A lorry was so overloaded with steel pipes that it fell through a bridge in Changchun, capital of northeast China’s Jilin Province, int a river creating a gaping hole in the road.
Chinese officials later said that the lorry was so overloaded that it had a total weight of 89 tonnes, and the driver ignored the signs stating that the maximum weight of the bridge was just 15 tonnes.
The resulting accident created a 14m by 5m hole in the bridge, as the lorry fell into the Yitong river below.
Fortunately the river was shallow enough for the driver and his passenger not to be submerged, but both were treated for fractures and head injuries.
